"The Great Silence" Illustration
This piece is based on Ted Chiang's short story "The Great Silence." The story weaves together the silence of the universe and the silence of extinction of species. The narrator, an endangered Puerto Rican parrot, comments on human ignorance as well as grand communication aspirations such as the Arecibo Telescope. The illustration was accepted into Illustration West 61, an international juried annual organized by the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles.
